The Mattapan/ Greater Boston Technology Learning Center (Mattapan Tech) best known as the Mattapan School of Technology, is a registered public non-profit job training and career development school. At Mattapan Tech our primary goal is to provide outstanding job training to the residents of Greater Boston in the area of computer technology and project management.
Mattapan Tech is a small adult vocational school with a great vision, located in a mixed business and residential neighborhood of Boston. We provide a high standard education to our students. We teach the skills necessary to compete in the job industry, the leadership to lead and the tools to earn a living honestly and with dignity.
The Mattapan School of Technology has a reputation for its achievement in helping its students developing technical and leadership skills through a unique curriculum that focuses on real life bench work, apprenticing and challenging academic courses. We prepare our students to pass their professional certification test, to perform and lead in this changing technology world. Our student body is composed of young and older adults from 14 ethnic backgrounds. They come from several cities and towns throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
85% of Mattapan Tech students pass their professional certification test in Office, PC Repair and Project Management even before they complete the program.
The student population of Mattapan Tech is very diverse, it is composed of 5% Caucasian, ,32% African-American, 13% Haitian, 30% other Caribbean nationals (Barbadian, Jamaican, Trinidadian, Monserratian, etc.), 8% Hispanic, 5% African (Ghana, Congo, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, etc.), 7% others (India, Pakistan, China, Vietnamese, Cambodia etc),. Most of the students are from Dorchester, Mattapan, Roxbury, Randolph, Brockton, Somerville, Cambridge, Malden, Everett, Lynn and Waltham. We have a few students from other neighboring states New Hampshire and Rhodes Island.
The programs offered include : Web Design for small business, Database Management, Computer Technology, PC Repair, Network Technology. Fiber Optic Communication, MS Office, Basic Accounting, Team Building, Leadership, Communication, English As a Second Language, Basic Physics and Mathematics, GED preparation, Resume Preparation and Job Interview seminars.
The services of Mattapan Tech are essentially free. Students pay a small registration and lab fee that vary between $50-$300, depending on the length and the operating costs of the program of choice. The school offers limited financial assistance to those who cannot afford that small obligation.

Besides the educational programs of Mattapan Tech, the center is involved in the following community projects:
Voter registration and education program to encourage people to get involved and participate in the US Democracy;
A free translation program for Haitian immigrants;
An Immigration Assistance Program in collaboration with local Attorneys;
Community civic awareness radio shows to inform and educate new immigrants about citizen rights and responsibilities;
Summer technology program for youth;
Youth program in Haiti that includes: HIV and teen pregnancy prevention, a community library, a computer lab and a dental program.
