HOME, works with educators, teens to help them to be thoughtful creators and consumers of media.
HOME, Inc. (Here-in Our Motives Evolve) is a 37 year-old non-profit organization whose mission is to teach video production and media analysis to educators and youth to foster confident, creative, individuals with the ability to think for themselves. We help inner city high school students analyze and become capable users of technology, develop critical thinking skills, and understand the role of media in shaping their opinions and sense of efficacy. We provide, train and support volunteers who act as role models for students helping them to have the confidence to analyze and understand media and it’s larger social context and to plan how to solve problems and create solutions in their own voice through the media they create. We provide these services in inner city Boston area schools where poorer families do not have access and support to use current communications and media technologies that are available in more affluent communities. Our program helps over 2000 students each year form affiliations, produce new media, collaborate in its production, share their work, and develop 21st Century skills that support good citizenship and equity in employment.
