Mission
The Green Roundtable, Inc. (GRT) is an independent non-profit organization whose mission is to mainstream green building and sustainable design and become obsolete. We work toward this goal by promoting and supporting healthy and environmentally integrated building projects through strategic outreach, education, policy advocacy and technical assistance. We envision a world in which green building is business as usual.
Strategy
Unhealthy, inefficient, and unsustainable development is caused by a lack of systems thinking and coordination among building professionals and stakeholders. GRT uses systems-based holistic strategies to proactively create effective programs that reach out across industries, professions, and other boundaries. We engage major building stakeholders, and provide services to help them integrate sustainable design and construction strategies and standards.
Our strategy is to educate people who inhabit, commission and operate buildings to define their own green criteria and expectations while simultaneously training and supporting design professionals to provide the services that meet these changing needs. Concurrently, we work with policy and regulatory bodies to encourage the integration of sustainable design principles into regulatory requirements,To effect market transformation, we develop initiatives specific to particular market sectors (schools, housing, etc.) with an understanding of the forces and constraints acting on each sector (legal, financial, etc.) and their impacts on public health, natural resources and the environment (air, water, solid waste management, energy, etc.).
